Start with the symptom.

The most useful fixes for installation, activation, scans and Windows behavior are below. If a step changes anything important, it says so.

FIRST THINGS TO CHECK

Kraken will not open or the service looks offline.

  1. Restart the PC once.This clears an older service or installer process that Windows may still have locked.
  2. Open Kraken AV from Start.The dashboard should appear in Windows Search after installation. If it does not, run Repair from the Kraken AV folder.
  3. Check the service from Settings.If the dashboard opens but reports the protection service as offline, use Repair with administrator rights.
ACTIVATION

Signed in, but no license?

The app looks for an active license assigned to the same TheMate.DEV account. Open My account in a browser and check the edition and expiry date. A plan upgrade does not require reinstalling the app; sign out and back in to refresh the entitlement.

OFFLINE USE

“Online definitions unavailable” is not the same as “unprotected.”

If Kraken cannot reach TheMate.DEV, it keeps the local definitions loaded. When the connection returns, use Update definitions in Settings if you do not want to wait for the automatic refresh.

FALSE POSITIVES

Verify first, exclude narrowly.

Use File Inspector on the exact file and check where it came from. If you trust it, add that file or its specific application folder to Exclusions. Avoid excluding Downloads, AppData or Temp as a whole.

REMOVABLE DRIVES

Manual on Essential, automatic on Plus and Ultra.

Any edition can run a Custom Scan against a mounted drive. Plus and Ultra can also start a scan when removable media first appears.

WINDOWS

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender.

Kraken does not disable Microsoft Defender. Windows manages registered security providers, so Defender can remain active alongside this release. Keep Windows Security enabled unless Windows itself changes the active provider.

Closing the Kraken dashboard is different: the window goes to the notification area and the Kraken protection service keeps running. Choose Exit dashboard only when you actually want the interface process to close.
